Accessibility

We welcome and affirm people of all abilities. We have taken the following steps to ensure that no one is excluded from full participation in the life of our church.

Parking

Four accessible parking spaces are located on the Elm Street side of the building, two of which are van accessible. Additional “Handicap Parking” places are marked for services and special events with large orange cones.

Mobility Assistance

Our entire building is accessible for those who use wheelchairs as well as those with limited mobility. From the Elm Street entrance on the building’s west side, one can immediately enter the elevator and arrive at any one of the building’s three floors. All of the thresholds throughout the building are level. The sanctuary chancel has a motorized lift and has a railing; flexible seating is provided in the first row and in the back of the sanctuary for those who use wheelchairs or who require flexible seating. A family bathroom off the main hallway on the first floor, between the Elm Street entrance and the Common Room, is wheelchair accessible, as are two bathrooms on the second floor, on either side of the sanctuary balcony and two bathrooms on the lower level.

Vision Assistance

Large print hymnals and Orders of Service are always available from ushers at all entrances to the sanctuary before the service on Sunday mornings. If you would like an orientation tour of the church during the week, contact the office to make arrangements at 781-275-7994.

Hearing Assistance

You can obtain a headset that uses “FM loop” technology from an usher at all services, and we have equipment for those with and without hearing aids. For church meetings or workshops, portable microphones are provided for questions and comments made from the audience.

Children with Special Needs

If you would like your child to participate in the religious education program and feel that they may require special accommodation due to learning disabilities or behavioral issues, please contact the Director of Faith Development for Children at 781-275-7994 or directorfaithdevchildren@uubedford.org in advance so the best possible arrangements can be made.

Pastoral Care

We provide pastoral care to all members regardless of ability.

Fragrance-Free and Masking-Required Area

We have dedicated an area of the balcony, Page Room, as a masking required and fragrance free area on Sunday mornings. This second floor room can be accessed by stairs at the front entrance or by elevator at the Elm St. entrance. On the main floor, fragrance free products are provided in our gender and family inclusive bathroom.

Service Animals

We welcome service animals throughout the building for all activities.

Privacy

Sunday services are videotaped. Those seated in the last two rows of pews and upstairs in the Bacon Room will not appear on video. Joys and concerns are broadcast live during service, but are not recorded.

Additional Information

If you have any questions not answered or concerns not addressed, please contact the church office at 781-275-7994 or office@uubedford.org.
