We welcome and affirm people of all abilities. We have taken the following steps to ensure that no one is excluded from full participation in the life of our church.
Parking and Transit
Four accessible parking spaces are located on the Elm Street side of the building, two of which are van accessible. Additional “Handicap Parking” places are marked for services and special events with large orange cones. On Sundays, there is free bus service within Bedford to First Parish, and to other churches within Bedford, and arrangements for that service can be made by calling Debbie Green at 978-467-5824, or Bedford Charter at 781-275-9524.
Our entire building is accessible for those who use wheelchairs as well as those with limited mobility. From the Elm Street entrance on the building’s west side, one can immediately enter the elevator and arrive at any one of the building’s three floors. All of the thresholds throughout the building are level. The sanctuary chancel is ramped and has a railing; flexible seating is provided in the first row and in the back of the sanctuary for those who use wheelchairs or who require flexible seating. A family bathroom off the main hallway on the first floor, between the Elm Street entrance and the Common Room, is wheelchair accessible, as are two bathrooms on the second floor, on either side of the sanctuary balcony and two bathrooms on the lower level.
Large print hymnals and Orders of Service are always available from ushers at all entrances to the sanctuary before the service on Sunday mornings. If you would like an orientation tour of the church during the week, contact the office to make arrangements at 781-275-7994.
You can obtain a headset that uses “FM loop” technology from an usher at all services, and we have equipment for those with and without hearing aids. For church meetings or workshops, portable microphones are provided for questions and comments made from the audience.
Children with Special Needs
If you would like your child to participate in the religious education program and feel that they may require special accommodation due to learning disabilities or behavioral issues, please contact the Director of Religious Education at 781-275-7994 or firstname.lastname@example.org in advance so the best possible arrangements can be made.
We provide pastoral care to all members regardless of ability.
Scent Free Zone
We have dedicated an area of the balcony, marked with signs, as a zone which is to be kept free of scent on Sunday mornings.
We welcome service animals throughout the building for all activities.
If you have any questions not answered or concerns not addressed, please contact the church office at 781-275-7994 or email@example.com.
