At 9:00 a.m.:
“Animals That Shouldn’t Exist, According to Intelligent Design”
with Dr. Abigail Hafer, parishioner and Curry College professor of zoology
Abby says, "One of the great things about evolution is the sheer weirdness of its results. I will discuss some animals that you just shouldn’t go to your grave without knowing about, and I will discuss some of the philosophical conundrums implied by their very existence.
Come and find out about some of the most lovable and fascinating members of the animal kingdom, and why they knock some of our most fondly-held ideas into a cocked hat."
And at 11:00 a.m.:
“Catching Fire: How Cooking Makes Us Human”
Dr. Richard Wrangham, special guest speaker
Wrangham is a primatologist and Ruth Moore Professor of Biological Anthropology at Harvard University. His research group is now part of the newly established Department of Human Evolutionary Biology. He is a director of the Kibale Chimpanzee Project, the long-term study of the Kanyawara chimpanzees in Uganda. His research culminates in the study of human evolution in which he draws conclusions based on the behavioral ecology of apes. As a graduate student, Wrangham studied under Robert Hinde and Jane Goodall. He is the co-author of Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence and, most recently, “Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human.”
