OVERTURE

Music for four hand piano (including Schubert's famous “Military Marches”) and selections from the operetta “Blossom Time” (adapted from melodies by Schubert) by Sigmund Romberg

1:40-3:15 p.m.

SCHUBERT AND THE BIEDERMEYER TRADITION

Music by Schubert for the entire family! - including youth performers, the First Parish Junior Youth Choir, a story about Schubert as told by First Parish's RE Director, Lisa Rubin, and easy folk and contra dancing for the whole family to “live” music by Schubert instructed by Marilyn Richards (along with some Viennese pastries!)

3:25-4:00 p.m.

SCHUBERT AND RELIGION

The combined choirs of FIVE Bedford churches join together with an orchestra to sing Schubert's “German” Mass in F major

4:00-5:30 p.m.

SCHUBERTIADE

Schubertiades were musical parties held at Schubert's house which featured Schubert's music, serious and comical, and instrumental and vocal.  This party will include well-known songs, piano pieces like the Impromptus, a flute transcription of the famous “Arpeggione” sonata, and the even more famous “Shepherd on the Rock”.  Featured performers include Cynthia Mork, Sue Ellen Kuzma, Epp Sonin, Thomas Stumpf, Steve Sussman, Bradford Conner and Benjamin Sears

5:30-6:30 p.m.

There will a light supper available for a small fee in the First Parish Common Room.

6:30-8:00 p.m.

SOMETHING'S FISHY!

The grand finale of the day is a showcase of pieces associated with Schubert's most famous song, “The Trout” - a set of choral variations performed by the First Parish Adult Choir, an astounding transcription by Franz Liszt … and ending with the famous “Trout” quintet for piano and strings by some of Boston's best instrumentalists
