Fire Protection at the First Parish

sprinkler pump Sprinklers
Sprinklers were installed in 1987. Air pressure in the sprinkler system is maintained by this "christmas tree" in the furnace room. The system is dry; when a sprinkler head valve melts, the pressure is released and water floods the system. The fire department can augment the flow of water by connecting a pumper truck at a valve on the side of the building.
electric door stop Door Stops
These electromagnetic doorstops are designs to release the door when the alarm system is triggered.
smoke detector Heat and Smoke Detectors
These detectors are ceiling mounted. The one in the kitchen gets accidentally exercised at least once a year.
hung ceiling details Ceiling of the Sanctuary
The plaster lath is hung from the rafters which support the sanctuary celing. The rafters (horizontal timbers at top) support the hangers (vertical strips of darker brown wood) which support the stringers (below rafters at bottom of hangers) which supports the lath which is hidden by the fiberglass insulation. The horizontal sprinkler pipe feeds the sprinkler heads mounted in the ceiling. A broader view of the support system can be seen by clicking on the photo.

Alarm System
The alarm system is connected to the fire department. The fire department has a key to the Elm Street entrance where the Alarm Control panel is mounted.
