The Belfry

The steeple bell The bell was made by Meneely Bell Co., Troy NY.
and the inscription reads:

Presented to
The First Parish Church Unitarian
in memory of
George Richard Blinn
by his wife
Clara A Blinn
1886-1926
"To live in the Hearts we leave behind is not to die"
The hammer that strikes the hour is located low on the outside edge the bell (right side of the picture). When the bell is rung by hand by pulling on a rope, the entire bell swings.
Note the patina of the bell, this is caused by oxidation and pigeon droppings. During the steeple renovation of 1987, screening was installed in the belfry to reduce the pigeon problem.
