“The Return of the Restored Abraham Prescott Double Bass”
Long before there was a pipe organ at First Parish, hymns were accompanied by a 3-string double-bass, built in the early 1800’s by preeminent luthier Abraham Prescott. For the last many months, the bass has undergone restoration, a 4th string has been added, and it is now said to be the finest example of prized Prescott instruments anywhere in the world. It has even moonlighted at Symphony Hall.
John Gibbons, with First Parish historian Sharon McDonald, will briefly reflect on the history and significance of church musical instruments. Musician Joe Holt from the faculty of the NE Conservatory, will give an extended demonstration of the bass’s magnificence and Steve Sussman will be playing piano.

and at 3pm: The Installation of Rev. Megan Lynes as our First Second Minister.
