December 4 at 10am: "The Keystone Pipeline and Civil Disobedience" w/Roger & Susan Shamel

Why would two ordinary people, who have never been arrested before, spend over $1000 to go to DC, stay in a hotel, pay “‘post and forfeit”’ fines to extract themselves?!

In September Bedford environmentalists Roger and Susan were arrested in front of the White House at a sit-in opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline. That day over 1,253 religious leaders, scientists, indigenous people, doctors, students, parents, and grandparents participated in a civil disobedience action to urge President Obama to nix the development of the Keystone XL Pipeline. This pipeline would carry oil from the tar sands of Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico to be refined. Protests are ongoing with an estimated 10,000 people surrounding the White House on November 6. A decision is expected by the end of the year.
